If you just post to my blog for backlinks, then you are nothing more than a spammer. I report those to google.

I know many many others who do this as well. So, keep it up and you may find yourself dropped from the search index.

For me, blog commenting has always been conversation. Sadly, on most blogs the comments are people leaving comments for commenting sake and "building backlinks" this way. But sometimes you land on great, possibly controversial, post and comments fly back and forth, and that's when blog commenting truly shines compared to the old-school html websites.

But for SEO's sake, I wouldn't do it. I like to contribute to whatever I choose to participate in, so if I can't bring anything extra to the conversation (whether it'd be here on a forum, blog comment or whatnot), I just read, take my notes and move on.

I don t think blog comments is a steady back link income as the blogger also delete our comments.

I guess blog commenting will help. It's not important if it's dofollow or nofollow. Just don't forget to add your link and post a very nice comment. Not the overrated "Nice post" and "Nice blog" thing. Yah I guess Chris is right, commenting is not SEO, it's just advertising. But it really helps a lot.

Yeah blog commenting is important especially if you are promoting your company. Post comment for a site with keywords related then have link to your site.

Lots of people have mentioned the importance of blogs being dofollow. But in the end it's not vital. A good comment on a nofollow blog can still help with SEO.

How? The blogger might like the comment, go to your blog, and then link to it in a post at a later stage.

Commenting on related blog is a good way of promoting yyour site, if the blog is dofollow, its an additional benefit. Don't spam blogs around but contribute to the conversation wisely.

The no follow attribute was introduced as a standard feature of Blogger and WordPress.That’s why many people found their comments were rejected. Yes it is important. That's one of my way where I could get quality backlinks. But as always don't make posts that are irrelevant, they delete that sometimes and don't spam any blogs.

Posting comments in blogs, whether nofollow or dofollow, will help you generate traffic to your site. Ideally, this method is intended to connect with other bloggers, so make you comments as sensible as possible. Don't link drop. Your comments will not be approved.
