Hello all,

I have started re-thinking my blog platform and may switch to Joomla. Is there any real dis-advantage to switching from Wordpress to Joomla?

Joomla has lots of plugins that add the blogging functionality.

really depends on you needs. wordpress is a powerful CMS and meets most bloggers' need. however, Joomla is a more powerful and much metter platform and offers lot more options than wordpress. if you need some options that is available on Joomla but not on wordpress, then feel free to switch

The choice really depends on your needs. There's nothing wrong with switching, but you should ask yourself if there's a reason to switch. Is there something that WordPress isn't currently allowing you to do that you would like to do?

If not why make the change?

If Joomla offers you something WordPress doesn't then it makes sense to switch. If you'd like to learn more about Joomla in general then it makes sense to switch too.

Nothing wrong with changing your CMS as long as you have a reason for wanting to make the change.

I think the main reason I want to venture into joomla is because i want experience of working with it but, I like Wordpresses back end features and usability.

I think Joomla is easier to template and I can make changes to my website easier... Am I just uninformed or is this true?

I think if Joomla was better than WordPress, we'd all be hearing a lot more abuot it.

But wanting to switch because you want to gain experience is the best reason in the world. Only, don't switch. Start a new blog, so that if you don't like it, you haven't broken your old one.

Bryan if you want more experience with Joomla then I definitely encourage you to use. It doesn't have to be on your site though. You can always set it up on a development machine or even as subdomain under your site if you want.

Wanting to know more is a great reason for a lot of things.

But only change your site if there's a reason to. You may even want to work with Joomla first to see if you do want to use it and to better know how to make the switch if you end up going that way.

haha thanks. I didnt think of it that way. Wordpress templating system is just to indepth, I find myself forgetting pages left and right...

wordpress is quick to use , but has less plugins and graphic controls, joomla need mroe time to adjustweb site and work on it, and load pages more slowly..

I've always been a WordPress lover. But, recently I've had to expand and work with Joomla. At first I was very confused by all the options it has but within a few minutes I got the hang of it. They are both wonderful programs it all comes down to what you need and what you are looking for.

Joomla uses three levels of external features - Components, Modules, and Mambots. while Wordpress uses from the beginning only one external code interface - Plug-in. That means less code.

I really find wordpress harder to template with. I find there are so many pages that need to be templated. And there are so many elements that need to be templated.

Where Joomla has one page and that starts and finishes all coding.

Choice is totally depends on your need. I think Joomla is having better admin panel. So if you are going to have a very large portal then go for Joomla

of course i'll go for wordpress...

WordPress hands down. Lots of plugins that actually work with the latest version of the engine. Can't say that for Joomla, half of those instill security risks and aren't up to snuff with 1.5. So the sheer number of plugins that actually work for Joomla is misleading.

WordPress also has thousands of free themes you can download and modify to be more personable and original. Joomla... not so many. There is also a WYSIWYG theme template editor extension for Dreamweaver that makes creating/modifying WordPress themes a snap called ThemeDreamer http://www.themedreamer.com , however a version for Joomla is in the works too... (rumored).

it depends on you what you totally looking for, then if you are looking for some plugins that wordpress can't give then switch to joomla! still you can create on the same blog platform!

i have the joomla dreamweaver extension.... i got it before i got the dreamweaver wordpress one...

I vote for Wordpress if you simply need a blog, Joomla ways too big.

And I think Wordpress has a lot of puglins which you need for a blog, most of them are free, but not with Joomla. It has a tons of plugins, but most of those usefull one, you will have to pay for it
