As a writer I find blogging to be a very easy form of self-publishing. In a market where you can spend years attempting to just see your name in print and still fail, blogging represents a self-made opportunity to show the world what you can do.

Really, this is what drives most user-generated content, be it youtube or a blog site or whatever. I personally think it's wonderful, because it allows you a way to gradually build a niche audience even as you fail miserably in the world of "real entertainment".

Figured I'd answer along those lines since others have the "marketing" side pretty sealed up...

It's good you offered another perspective. Many of us here will have marketing on our minds often, but let's face it most people blog for the reasons you stated. It's an easy way to self-publish.

I have a friend who blogs just so she can let her friends around the country know what she's been up to without having to email each individually. She could care less about traffic and has WordPress set up not to be indexed.

But once published you have to be able to protect your work, which can be very difficult with the internet nowadays

I think people like knowing people are interested in the blogger's life. At least that's what I think.

beyond the recognition and wanting to have a profitable blog, I blog because i am disgusted about a lot of things and it lets me get my feelings off my chest and onto paper (or the internet in this case)

I blog for different reasons sometimes for earning and enjoyment......

Some people blog because they have a passion for writing. Making money just comes along with it, which is good!

usually the main motivation and writing becomes the tool to achieve the result, lol

i do blog for personal purposes... i write if something good or bad happen to. it's my online personal diary.

There are some reasons why people keep on blogging.
First, they blog just only to express what they felt.
Second, they blog just to earn money through ads.
Third, they blog just to help promote on their product by posting reviews.

There are many reason why do people blog. Many people blog to gain backlinks for the website they own; some people are blogging to earn money thru adsense, kontera, etc; some are blogging simply because they want to share their thoughts to other.

blogs really started out like a calendar taht people could express themselves but with the evolution of stuff like wordpress and other stuff....anything is possible.

I saw a blog for the batman movie that rocked...that guy was pulling in a few thousand in sales too....so blogs are great for every part of business nowadays.

1) because they think they can make money at it
2) because they think they're more interesting than they really are
3) because they like attention
4) because they don't like free time
5) because they're bored
etc., etc., etc.

Most of the people blog for making money.
Those who starts doing this for fun, changes their objective to earning money afterwards.

Basically blogging complies for the term web2.0, where the visitors are the content writers. It makes your blog full off unique content.

I confess I blog for the money that will come from the increased site ranking and links. It is an enjoyable way to learn, socialize and work at the same time. Good Pluck

Some need to blog (they have ideas and need to share them), some found out others are making lots of money and want to earn too, others just feel the need to ***** around. I kinda have all the 3 needs I mentioned above

Because they are bored and have nothing else to do?
