This is a simple question but hard to answer. I blog because I interest in it. But since my traffic grows, I start thinking about monetising my blog.

At first I'm torn in the middle. Now, I'm sure I blog because I want to, while, in the process, seeking opportunities to monetise it.

I have some blogs that I use for monetization, and some because I enjoy writing on them!

Most blogs tend to not make much money (Especially if that is all the owner is focused on). A blog tends to do well when the person who is blogging really has a passion for something or wants to get there unique information across.

With blogging I think the best way to make money would be:
Selling your content - Someone may want it on there website and/or magazine.
Ad spaces - Not great (there income varies far too much), but good enough.
Publish your work - You could make your own book on various things and use your blog as an advertising point.

monetization of blogs is a must - you should be awarded for your hard work...

anyway, 99% of blogs are hardly earning enough to pay fees for domain, hosting, etc... not talking about bloggers time

The top earners are the people that run blog networks!!

Well, I blog for some reasons. First, to write all my thoughts and opinions and of course to monetize it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with monetizing a blog at all (do it myself) but there are some I see that are so "in your face" about it sends me virtually packing in a NY minute. Like opening up a bloggers home page and having a huge ad staring at me before I even know what the blog is about. Guess my point is, do it as tastefully as possible.

when i started to blog, i never really thought that i can earn money from it until a friend of mine told me so. And now, i am starting to earn now and it feels more exciting.. lol!

I used to be that blogger that chucked ads in your face.

Now I have become more experienced, and now know that I want to create a site for my visitors, with tasteful ads on the site that are benefitial to my users.

Well yes I also do blogging for money making only and most of bloggers do blogging for money only.

for me the reason i started to blog ( not even have my own domain) it to see my progress on earning at home after my day job, so basically yes, posting on how can i achieve or at least earn something from the net.

Nope. I go to my day job for money, I blog to express thoughts that occupy my brain. And, when I'm lucky, I get feedback from smart people on those thoughts.

Not really, at least not initially. I started blogging because of an interest in blogging and a subject matter, but it took awhile to find my sweet spot. I blog for two major blogs (in the Technorati Top 20) and make money off of it, but I never envisioned my future to head in that direction.

Really, my blog brings me clients, work, and all else that goes with it. That's why I enjoy blogging -- I have an audience, and I really enjoy it too.

You still don't consider blogging entertaining? If you're seeing money as the end goal and you're not enjoying it at all, it's not a healthy lifestyle

To add, I found nowadays there are less and less 'pure blogger' out there - The one line Learning_Newbie.

I also agree that blogging purely for money - like those blogs that are MFA (Made for AdSense) - is bad for the blogosphere and a bit distasteful, don't you think? Like what Tamar said, it's not a healthy lifestyle.

Any thoughts?

I must say I am blogging to help increase the overall PR of my site, but if I can monetize it all the better

I had s few blogs and I used it as a documentary for my hobbies and interest and I never used them for monetization. but still it is a great way to earn some money.

Im blogging for two reason: 1) to promote my websites and bring visitors to it; 2) to earn EXTRA money (thru AdSense).

Dont use the 2 reasons for 1 blog; having adsense in your blog that you intent to use to promote your website seems not good.

I do blogging just to promote my site and help increase its traffic and page rank.
