I'm starting a blog that is basically a photo blog but I will be writing blurbs of text for SEO purposes as well.

It was a nightmare finding one for carphotos.org and even more of a nightmare trying to get it to work properly.

I'm wondering if any of you know of a decent plug-in for managing photos. Main 2 things I'm looking for are:

1) The ability to grab the latest photos and list them in my sidebar.

2) Auto watermarking.

#2 isn't all "that" important. If I can figure out how to make the image watermark only when they are hotlinked from the server side. But I guess then again I'd want my watermark to be on there even if someone downloaded the images and posted them elsewhere...

So yeah, any suggestions?

Would you happen to have a forum in addition to the blog? Photoplog is my favorite gallery and I use it to store all my photos for my Wordpress blog. Just a thought if you do.

I'd also be interested in hearing a good wp gallery, I've tried a few but didn't like too many, what I'd like is a gallery where it just has a table of thumbnails on a page that looks just like any other of your wp pages, nothing fancy.

I hate watermarking my images, but I do it anyway ... mostly for the reasons you mentioned. I do it by hand in Photoshop, because each image is different, and I want the mark to look as un-terrible as possible. I put mine in the bottom right corner, but change things like the color and blending mode to fit each image.

If you don't want to go through that trouble, and have Photoshop, create a watermark action, then use the built in automation to run it over a folder of images.

Yeah I plan to add on a forum eventually. Could photoplog help show recent images in the wordpress sidebar? Is there a widget out for that?

It's still in development stages right now. Doesn't even have a logo. www.weaponsphotos.com

I'm thinking I may just go ahead and do the watermarks manually then upload.

I could actually code a PHP script that watermarks on the fly if it's hotlinked. I guess I was just hoping there was a decent plugin out there that does this already. I used to be passionate about coding but now i just don't have the time and try to take shortcuts wherever I can

I found one: http://familypress.net/photopress

It is, for lack of a better phrase, the bomb diggity.

Auto watermarking.
You can embed right into a post from the upload pane
Handles up to 10 images per upload flawlessly.
Easy to customize
Has an album view.
Auto thumbnails. (and not those messy shrink wrap thumbs either.)

Booyah!!

Thanks George. I've been looking for a good gallery plugin myself for a client of mine who may go with WordPress. We won't need to watermark anything, but we will need other gallery features.

Here's an article on preventing hotlinking if you're interested. There are a few sites who steal my content and end up hotlnking to any image I use. I've been thinking of setting something up so they get a different image instead and have the image be a link back to my site.

Where is it grabbing the latest photos from? Flickr? If so, there are a few Flickr sidebar plugins for WordPress that look awfully nice.
