How do you get started on a blog?

And how do most people make money off there blogs?

I guess that you have knowledge in how to get hosting and domain so first off I recommend you to use wordpress as your blog platform, its is easy to work with and there are a lot of different modules to modify it with.

Depending on what topic your blog have there are different methods that work best but if your blog is your business or personal blog, I would recommend you to work with link exchanges with other entrepreneurs. For me most of my traffic comes from that. Expect from that SEO.

The most important thing with a blog is to keep the content flowing, the more often you update the more returning readers you will get. I would recommend to update a couple of times per week.

About making money from blogging I would suggest you to read some on John Chows blog he has some good articles about that.

Wordpress can import blogspot blogs, so I'd start out there until you figure out whether or not you like blogging. Also features very easy adsense integration.

I can't speak to their ranking in MSN... doesn't make sense to me that MSN would give them preferential treatment for being owned by google, since MSN and google are enemies.

I agree with the wordpress option. I've been using it for almost 2 years now and really like it.

AS far as how do most people make money from blogs? They don't. Blogs are notoriously hard to monetize. AdSense is in option. There are also blog specific networks like BlogAds. Also there are pay to review services like ReviewMe and PayPerPost. If it's a product oriented blog, affiliate programs can work too.

Try Blogger if you need to start fast and easily. I am sure though that in future you will be interested in having a own domain and setting up WordPress as blog platform.
