I run a entertainment blog site and I am using wordpress. Is it possible for 'users/visitors' to actually add content without registering?

If so, is it a bad idea?

Without registering is a really bad idea.

My Askimet caught 90 spams in less than a month in the comments, imagine what they would do to an open blog

As for the possibility, I don't think so. People from WordPress are probably smarter than allowing non-registered users to post

Don't allow open content. It is better to do a manual review then it is to spend hours cleaning up a SPAM mess.

Exactly. Make them take 3 minutes to sign up, and then have it to where you review the content. The content will be a lot better, and you wont have any spam

I totally agree with you. Even on blogs where registration is must people don't leave the opportunity to spam.
Precaution is always better than cure.

No, I don't quite agree with this. When a random blog surfer visit a new blog, I'm like why I can't give my view on this and I'll leave and never come back.

If someones spam frequently, you can just delete it. Maybe I'm saying this because I've never being spammed that much before.

When you have to delete thousands of spam comments, you'll start thinking otherwise.

You might want to reconsider allowing open comments. After cleaning up just one mess you will wish you had.

One of my sites requires registration and still gets SPAM on a daily basis.

It is much easier for me to hit the approve button then to have to read all the comments for that day to figure out what is real and what is SPAM.

The spammers are very smart, they find way to get in your blog, few write like this; "hi, I find this very useful blog, Thanks for sharing" and leave a spammy links there. :shuriken:

No sign-up for Commenting, but if you want to give someone rights to make posts, then you should definitely require sign up. Like Fredto said, What Akismet catches alone, on a weekly basis, is scary, and that's only comment spam.
