If you have blog on another domain, you can get strong backlinks from it. And it is useful for website promoting. Think, if you have a quality blog, witch have 100 visitors a day. You post a review of your website to it and how many visitors will check this website? 50%? More?

Well, I guess it still depends on the type of stuff that you post regularly and how it generates positive and lasting impression from the readers.
