I was just wondering what everyone else thought ..
I already have hosting and have set up my blogs on that domain - a domain that has nothing to do with the content of my blogs but I've used a keyword for that blog's directory e.g. owls*.*com*/*shoesaustralia (that's not my real domain - but take out the *'s)
Do you think I'll be OK if I don't bother buying a new domain for my blogs? Or should I be alright as long as I'm using keywords for the folder name?
With domains at 7-9$ per year I don't see a point in not getting a dedicated domain name since it gives a site a real identity. If the topics are similar (for example if everything is related to technology) than you are ok with one main domain if that main domain is related to the topics in some way (owls.com/shoesaustrala just doesn' cut it). But if your blogs have various non-related subjects, I suggest getting dedicated domains.
Domains help SEO a lot and they also give your website a more professional look. I noticed a huge increase in traffic from google as soon as I got a real domain for my myspace site.
Definitely get a domain if you are serious about getting traffic/making money. You don't want to be at the whim of the domain owner, and they are only like $6 or $7 from 1and1 or Hostway.
Well I own the domain so I have at least another 8 years on it and have paid up the hosting for the year already And I've had good traffic through my main site to the blogs so I'm alright for now.
Sometimes $7x5 is hard to come by unfortunately, which is why I'm doing all this now, lol. I will budget it into my next pay check though.
Hi Port,
I find this hard to believe. If you are getting good traffic on your front page, why not join some affiliate networks and have your traffic pay your domain registrations? If you take your business seriously, I think we all feel its the #1 step.
