Hi,

Quick question:

What do you think about grammar and spelling in blogging?

Thanks for your answer.

Personally that is one thing I do not care about, infact it makes me mad when I see people saying how can you read that, they don't even use correct grammar, who cares as long as it's good content.

However I have seen so many people read something then not go back because of bad spelling and grammar, so I would use good spelling and grammar if your trying to make money.

If I see a blog with bad spelling/grammar, I wouldn't take the content seriously.

It's a must that you keep your spelling accurate and your grammar correct.

Personally, I find it very irritating if an entry is full of spelling or grammatical errors. I suppose I interpret it as the author not caring enough about their content or readers to take them time to proofread their material. Having said that, even scientific journals and textbooks have occasional typographical errors that slip through the cracks.

Yes. It's not as if it takes more than a few minutes to run a spell checker and/or look over your sentences for grammar mistakes.

Bad spelling and grammar can ruin your credibility and professional image. I try to remember to use the spell checker before making a post...I am sure that I don't catch everything, but my goal is to make it as clean as possible.

Humbly,
Trevor Dean

Using correct spelling or grammar shows your visitors that you're dedicated to your blog and makes it look professional.

This is probably the first time I've ever seen anyone say that they don't care about grammar and spelling.

Your site will never be accepted as legitimate with the largest possible audience if it's filled with spelling errors, grammar mistakes, and annoying Internet lingo.

I agree with most of the others. Good spelling and grammar is almost as important as good content.

Using correct grammar and spelling is absolutely required! I really can not stand it when people use incorrect grammar or spell things wrong. Take the 2 minutes out of your time to copy and paste your blog post into word so it can spell and grammar check it.

It will not only make you sounds more professional but it also makes your entries easier to read.

Anything that distracts your reader from the content is a minus. Spelling and poor grammar interrupts the reading experience and you're not going to appeal to a subset of your visitors, that's always a bad thing. With the google toolbar, you shouldn't have any spelling mistakes.

Drop by your favorite Library and pick up a copy of a book called
" Eats, Shoots and Leaves."
It is a book about punctuation, and it is a great read!
Now, I even know what an " Oxford Comma" is.

yeah I think proper grammar and spelling shows professionalism, so it is a good idea to get them right.

everything you do will influence some people.

Figure out which people you want to influence and write to them.

If your target audience does not care about grammar, you don't need to. Of course if something is easy to do and expands your reach, why not do your best.

enjoy

I think that proper grammar and spelling is important, but I also believe that you can use common jargon and informal writing to come across a bit more accessibly. Y'know what I mean? :-)

Yes, but even the jargon and colloquialisms need to be spelled correctly, or they will distract from the message.
