As long as the Ads are near the bottom, I feel its ok to have many kinds of ads, I agree, just dont annoy your readers!

I'd say it kind of depends on the purpose of the blog. If it is a blog that's not related to you as a person and you're just trying to make some money out of it, you can put as many ads on there as you want. But if you're trying to make yourself seem like an expert on a certain subject and gain some authority on your subject, as few ads as possible is ideal.

As long as your blog is a reflection of yourself, I don't see why you can't write a blog and put a few ads on it!

The key is in having a good design, and blend your ads in it.

I am not there yet (but that will change soon...)

A blog is like a website, but easy to update, plus you can comminicate with theworld, and finally say what you have to say.

ANd does it make money?

Personaly, I make more money with my blogs, than with my sites. But I am blogging more than taking care of my websites...

Blogs are very profitable.

Use affiliate codes related to the specific blog post. EG say you blogged about mobile phones, use an affiliate code for amazon selling phones

So much of it is in the design of the site. Some sites look wretchedly boring without any ads. Most very simple sites need ads to complete the "pro" look. Of course, this totally depends on the content, goals, etc.

I think the blogs that have the most desireable stuff (not necessarily information) are going to make the most money.

I recommend testing. One method might work better to some than others. Some sites might easily use several ads, while others might do fine just few ones.

I personally think there can be many ads on the site (I have several google ads, adbrite, sponsors, banner ad, another smaller ad) in my site. But... if you check out my site, you can see that they fit quite nicely with the rest of the site - at least in my opinion . Some of the ads are located after the main text, one is in the end and so on.

I'm making few hundreds per month with my ads. Best one being text link ads.

I would imagine that the type of way to monetize your blog would be directly depedent on what type of blog you want to run. Product related you would be able to get away with pay per post type ordeals, whereas if you're doing a news blog or celebrity blog you have to rely on banners.

I only put a couple relevant ones, that aren't obnoxious. I also found out about this one site that does links within your content - kontera.com - which I might try out on one of my sites. However you have to meet certain requirements to do it, so not everyone can participate. (I do meet the requirements)

One way would be to announce your blog and your willingness to take on post sponsores. In your signature for example. Also maybe start a thread about it here and on some blog forums.

I tried a lot, using Adsense rectangles plus link units plus chitika ads. The website looked real messy and the revenue increase was not worth it. I removed everything but one adsense unit on each post and it is working pretty nice now.

Besides that I'am only using text link ads, google search and google get firefox.

My CPM seemed to have dropped while using that many ads.

For small blogs I think people take ads into consideration when they think about coming back, for the bigger things - tech, gaming (engadget, qj) - they are 60% ads... but they post quality updates enough for people to get over it.

As long as the ads don't block content - people don't care in my opinion. As that's all they are visiting for

Quality content should be the primary focus of any blog. Try not to crowd the blog with banners and links. I think that links within the content work best and they don't compromise the look and feel of the blog.

ok lemme ask you guys straight up: this is my blog www.frogengine.com/blog and I haven't really done anything with it other than using it to promote my directory and blog about related topics. Traffic is good, but income from the blog alone is not happening.
Could you guys give me any pointers on what to do to change it?

Thanks

- Mike

do a press release and dont just mention your site.

mention your blog so that you are directing traffic to both places. Because in the end you can monetize your blog and make sales from you site. Get the double income stream going. Get several sites going like this and you can be well on your way to making some great coin.

i think ads should only be on a blog if its a post partnership or/and if its a paid link. the huge adsense and annoying banners that arent in a post and just set somewhere are annoying and make me leave a blog.
