Akismet has protected your site from 785 spam comments.

That's not actually true ... Akismet takes credit for spam it lets through, that I flag manuallly. The 33 posts doesn't count the 'pages' you can link an upload to. By default, when you send an image up it wants to show a thumbnail and link to the full sized image, but you can instead link to a new page with the image - or other file type - with comments. Here's an example.

Still, I'm curious how other peoples' numbers look? About 80 % of my comments are spam. That seems absurd.

My blogs only been online for about a month and Ive only had 1 spam comment in about 20ish?

I can predict more and more spam flooding in as I HOPEFULLY get bigger lol. I think it depends where u advertise, so, don't advertise on stingy sites.

Adam - I edited your message to remove the links, since they all went to private areas of your site. I'm thinking you and a few others were right, that I'm seeing internal links from my search results because some spambot figured out how to scrape my site in a new way. Given the ingenuity of spammers, and the occasional security hole in wordpress, I'm assuming you won't mind.

Anyway, it sounds like you're getting even more spam than I am, compared to real comments. It seems like a horrible waste of resources ... and time at least scanning through the akismet list to make sure it doesn't get a false positive.

How much of yours is splog trackbacks, and how much is 'regular' comment spam? Have you checked into how the spambots announce themselves? Do you think any of the ip addresses are safe to block?

I got 49 comments and trackbacks from my blog visitors. I think only 5 of them are real comments. Akismet although not too perfect plug-in did a lot to catch spam comments on my blog.

I don't mind at all, Forrest. I'm glad you did it. I couldn't figure out how for some reason (probably because I was still half-asleep when I posted).

I personally don't get a lot of splog trackback in terms of percentage. I haven't counted or done an exact check, but I'd say it's about 1 in 10. What I tend to get are more of the random "Let's pick half a dozen words, pretend we're telling a story, new paragraph, http://you.really.do.have.a.small-jo...om/affId=12345" type of stuff.

I don't get much spam, but my blog is pretty new. I think both of you get a lot more traffic than I do. Anything that stands tall gets attention, and that includes from the spammers.

How do you think people named Johnson feel about always being called short by spammers?

I just checked Askimet and most of the spammy comments were keyword stuffed about all sorts of rubbish which I don't want to mention here and lower the tone again.

However, I got one interesting trackback to say the least, from what looks like a spamming site. I'm not sure what the motive of this trackback was, but it's got my attention anyway.
