This cool new thumbnail exchange is exclusively for blogs. It's similar to a banner exchange or a traffic exchange, but instead of displaying banners, you display thumbnails. And the blogs you link to aren't just blogs, they're your roomies! Here is a screenshot of the website:

The thumbnail rotates sequentially to make it fair for everyone. So every time the page is refreshed, you get a new roomie! For now they're sticking to one category for all blogs, but once My Roomie gets more popular, they'll match you with other roomies in the same blog category.

Sign up now if you want to get a roomie of your own!

You can put a thumbnail to my blog on your site if you want to. I'll let you know how it works.

Hey, none of my members are complaining. I wanted people to recruit members for me in the very early days.. now I don't need that anymore because people want to sign up for themselves. If you don't want to benefit from it, that's fine by me. You're passing up on free traffic

Has anyone ever said anything about your design?

It's a little on the feminine side so I'm curious if maybe it wouldn't have mass appeal if the design were more neutral or techie looking. As it is I'd think it was something for girls or female oriented blogs.

And I'm wondering what's with the dry stacked wall in the header?

Thanks for the input.. this is one website where I didn't want to think about anything and just design something I really like and have a project that I'd be really excited to be a part of, and I guess being a female, the design turned out to be something I would like as opposed to what everyone else would like. I quite like the wall effect.. I thought it gave it a somewhat 'beachy' feel to it.. I don't know.. oh and we've had just as many males signing up as females so I guess it doesn't really matter whom the design is orientated towards

How many males have seen your page and instantly pressed the browsers back button though? Just because 50% of your signups are male that doesn't mean the page is targetted for both audiences

By changing your colour scheme a little to also keep the male audience happy you could see a significant increase in the number of male signups

Remember, not everyone who views your site is going to sign up. If you want to have the maximum amount of signups possible you should target both sexes equally.

It's good that you're excited to be working on the project, just trying to offer some friendly advice

Im also receiving the following error now when trying to access your page :

Quote:
This Account Has Exceeded Its CPU Quota Please contact this site's webmaster.
Wait a few minutes and use your browser's "Back" button or click here to try again.

If you are the webmaster, your account may have gotten this error for one or more of the following reasons:
  • Your account has used more than its share of the cpu in the past 60 second sliding window.
  • Your account has too many concurrent processes running simultanously.
  • Your account has consumed too much memory.
  • Your site was recently very busy trying to run inefficient scripts.
The solution would be to optimize your applications to use less CPU.
Adding appropriate indeces to your SQL tables can often help reduce CPU.
Using static .html documents instead of painful .php scripts will practically eliminate CPU usage.

Actually I thought the website was aimed at girls, but then realised it was for both sexes. However this isn't a review, so I will stop here.

It might be free traffic, but is the traffic actually targetted traffic thats interested in your blog?

Hi downliner, I think you're right.. the design probably causes the majority of the males to bounce off the page (might explain why I've had no luck with google adwords!) I'm going to leave the design as it is for now though, because it takes so long to change all those pages.. but I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future.. Thanks for your input!

Hi hamesy, thanks for joining the conversation - I love getting input on my websites. We're using one category for all blogs for now because our website is so new, but in the upcoming weeks we'll be separating the 'roomies', particularly those in the popular categories such as entertainment and personal blogs - some niche categories like music will stay in the mainstream category a bit longer because it would make no sense to seperate them and starve those poor blogs of traffic

I see I guess that makes sense and it's interesting how you see that wall. When I see it I think of places in Europe that have large green areas and only those little walls as boundary markers. And of course the amount of time and craftsmanship that is involved in making a wall with the dry stack method.

Then there's the whole subconscious message that a wall like that could send.

But anyway like the other person pointed out it isn't a review and if you like it that is all that matters.

Haha it's become somewhat of a review thread here but I welcome that 100%.. who doesn't love feedback? It's interesting what you said about the wall image.. I can imagine the same thing myself now..
