I'm thinking of starting a blog (for geek stuff), what is the best on-server (hosted on your own server) scripts you can recommends me?

I was thinking of using wordpress, but my mate says it's rubbish. What do you use?

Wordpress isn't rubbish, it is a Blog that can do it all if you have the right resources. TextPattern is good also, you can read about it at http://textpattern.com/ and I have heard good things about http://www.movabletype.org/.

At the end of the day is what works for YOU. You might LOVE Wordpress or hate it depending on your character and your needs. I suggest to check as many of them blogs out as possible. That will help you choose.

I like WP. A lot of people complain about it but they seem pretty advanced users.

If you're using IIS Microsoft has created an open source blogging platform. I think it's C# but it might also be VB.

I was thinking of eventually custom coding a blog script, just out of interest, what features do you think it should have?
I had in mind what WP has, but also (Without extra modding needed)
- Plugins system (like MyBB)
- Podcast System

What features do you think they really need?

Thank I developed it about a year ago and it's just getting bigger and bigger with online demo's
