Well maybe they're not all really hacks they're more like 3rd party widgets or customizations but I've used them and have not encountered any problems using them. Make sure to back up your Blogger template before doing anything to it just to be safe.

The first two come from Beautiful Beta:

I use his recent comments and posts hacks. He's made them into widgets so you just click the button and it takes you to a screen where you choose the blog you want them to appear on. When it is completed your recent posts or comments will appear in the sidebar(s).

His widget for recent comments is in one of my sidebars and his recent posts hacks you can see when you click on individual posts on my blog. There was a hack I found that showed you how to make some elements appear only when the visitor was at a post page. I can't find the blog that showed me how to do that but I'll keep looking and post it when/if I do.

Again, make sure you back up template before doing anything. I can't accept any responsibility for your blog if something should go wrong-I'm just passing on info that I've come across and like/use.

Do you hate the Navbar at the top of your blog? Maybe you want to remove it but don't know how or you're worried it may PO Blogger/Google?

Here's a hack where you can hide the navbar by adding two lines of code. The blogger even shows you were it is suppose to go on your template.

bloggeratto.blogspot.com/2006/10/blogger-v30-hovering-peek-boo-blogger.html

When you do this hack your nav bar will still be there it hasn't been removed just masked. When someone hovers their mouse over the top of your blog the navbar appears. I like how this hack makes templates look more "professional" and it's a good one to have if you've gone through the trouble of making your template stand out from the rest.

I use this one on one of my secondary blogs.

I know tag/label clouds are suppose to be the mullets of blogging. But I think they're a good way to increase page views and help people "search" for content on your blog.

Here's a tutorial that shows you how to make a tag/label cloud for Blogger

phy3blog.googlepages.com/Beta-Blogger-Label-Cloud.html

I've not done this one yet mostly because I need to add a new sidebar for it on my blog and I'm lazy and a procrastinator but I've seen it on several blogs. Though I think it only works if the visitor has javascript enabled in their browser. If they don't then it turns into a default label list.

Glad you like 'em. But these aren't really "blogger tips" these are hacks or modifications for the template so that people can try to make their blogger blogs look different from the default template. If you have the time start a thread for "blogger basic tips" so we can add more content to the blogger forum and it become a valuable resource, I'll even help.

Blogger templates don't come with those spiffy CSS navigation bars at the top like WP themes do but that doesn't mean you can't add them. I found a foreign language blog that has some cut/paste code that you can use.

css-lybrary.blogspot.com/

The blog itself is kind of gawdy and has some flaws but the blogger provides code for 9 different nav bars you can use. He doesn't even ask you to link back to him or keep a url in the code. The list is on the left hand side for some reason you have to click the "demo" button that takes you to another blog that shows you what each bar looks like in action.

Like I said the blog is ugly but the nav bars are kinda nice and simple and he shows you were to place everything. It is pretty simple to do.

If you're smarter and know CSS and don't like those you can probably figure out how to make the nav bars from dynamic drive work on your Blogger template.

LOL!

I actually like tag clouds, I think they help to quickly see what the bulk of the content is about.

I like them too but a lot of the highbrow folks on the internets don't think they're cool. But anyway...

James' post on WP theme generators reminded me that I'd seen a template generator for Blogger. It isn't anything very fancy but it does make 2-3 column template that you can use on blogger. I've played around with it but haven't tested a template made with the generator but I've seen them on other blogs.

psyc.horm.org/

Weird domain name but pretty cool tool.
