I suggest getting a nicely done header image and bringing the whole site into some sort of color scheme.
Something simple will do the trick. After all you want your users focused on your daily posts.
To this effect I'm not sure if I would recommend the 3 column wordpress layout. In my opinion 3 column layouts really distract from the main content.
Perhaps a wide 2 column layout with a nice footer would be a btter layout selection.
You content is good, just make the site focus more on that content and not all the stuff going on on the sidebars.
