A new blog

Hey guys

I could do with some opinions on this new blog I got up and running its only done with wordpress and uses a premade theme so no effort put into it really.

It was just something I wanted to get up and running to host loads of info about cars and leasing as it would server as a good place to put a load of aricles I get for another website.

I did look at adding some videos from youtube as posts on it, but carnt get them to work properly on this wordpress blog as it keeps changing the code to be XHTML valid and it obviously does not no how to do it properly cos it stops the video working.

I could turn off the auto XHTML stict valid part of wordpress but it makes life much easyer when it comes to adding normal posts cos it does it for me and I do want to keep it XHTML strict before anybody says who cares if it is XHTML strict or not.

If you didn't design the web site, what is their to comment on?

(it is a neat template)

Instead of using WordPress to insert video, why not just embed them with valid code?

One thing I'm not a fan of is that the site is too light - the text and the background sort of fade away and I'm not very inclined to read. I mean it's cool that if I hover over something it becomes darker, but I don't think it's particularly effective. I would reconsider it.

Good luck. Blogs now have a tougher time getting off the ground, so I hope all will go well.

Just cos I did not make it does not mean I carnt ask for way to improve it no? I did not want any praise for it as you say I did not make it simpley ideas on ways to make it better.

Embedding videos manually would not work properly though as I could not just keep adding them as normal blog posts. If your thinking I am some noob who has used wordpress and a template cos I dont know how to code pages you would be wrong so no need to talk to me like I am an idiot. I can embed videos manually on xhtml strict valid pages no problem I have done it on my old personal website in the past. http://www.john-eva.co.uk/

Thing is thats not going to work as it is a word press blog site and it would mean manually making a page everytime instead of making pages though word press like the rest of the site.

Wow, guess I need to make note never to reply in a joking manner (notice the winking smilie) to you.

I did run a test on embedded video in WordPress and I see what you mean about not being able to do it the right way. WordPress refused to read a good bit of the code. Have you tried the video plug-ins? I have "Easy Tube" installed, just haven't gotten around to using it yet.

Ok sounds like I took it the wrong way there then sorry I thought you were trying to belittle me by saying what you did, what you said made it sound like you were mocking me because I was asking for opinions on a premade theme.

I havent tried the video plug-ins yet na, i will have to give that a go now you mention it, unfortunaly I have a funny feeling that they wont cater for XHTML strict most people dont seem to care about web standards, even more so when it comes to videos I had to figure it out for myself back when I did my old personal website cos nobody could tell me or send me to a site with the infomation about how to do it.

Ahwell I am sure I will figure something out one day even if non of the plug ins can do it.

I just tested "Easy Tube" and it validates with XHTML 1.0 Transitional, might be worth a shot trying it. It's pretty simple, upload & install the plug-in and type in [youtube:URL] (replace "URL" with the actual link to the video of course).

I liked the theme and the domain is good too. You should only put some warmer colors in the website, edit the CSS file in the theme!
