Now there are always people searching on Google looking for ways to get more backlinks to their websites, and to be honest people try looking for perfect relevant backlinks, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but seem to overlook the easy links that they can also get to their websites. This article is going to take a brief look at ways to get more backlinks to your website with some short bullet points but bullet points that get to the point like bullet points should. If you are wondering why people would want more backlinks then it's not necessarily for traffic but more than likely they are looking to increase their search engine rankings.

Eh...can't say I'm terribly impressed. I really don't like the "link exchange" suggestion - link exchanges are not the way to go in today's Internet.
I think learning about link baiting, social media, and using other creative means to get links to your site is the best way you can really do it.

I felt this is a good article. While not being totally new to Im, I also am not a seasons professional. I do not mind pointers or tips for new people. We were all new once. PLus a review by others sometimes help me recall something I forgot I need to be doing. Well folks have a great one

I love the idea of creating a tool that links to your website. That is a great way to build natural backlinks to your website.
I also like submitting to directories when starting a site, as it is a good way to get a base of backlinks built up. These are not very valuable links for google, but they don't hurt you either with google, and will help with other search engines.
I do not suggest link exchanges at all. Once you get a base of links built via directory submission and/or purchasing links, you simply need to be providing quality content on your site and build natural backlinks at this point. The only benefit I see with these links is if you are getting your link placed on a similar site and the link is in easy view of that site's visitors. Getting a link like that though will require you to do the same for another site and to me, those links just don't look good on a website.
Forum signatures are ok. They are merely one linkback though, so don't think that you are getting multiple backlinks by doing this. Google is much smarter than that. Besides, many forums don't pass PR through signature links via "nofollow" tags, or simply hide them from guest view anyhow.

3 way link exchanges work well for me both in terms of traffic and SEO.
They're non-reciprocal looking so no issue there.
4 ways are even better.

Forum signatures can be a good source to get backlinks, but for the mere benefit one cannot spam the forum. It would be benefecial if one is involved in niche forums related to his/her website.

Interesting..I'm a Newbie and I had posted here a while back, I had a couple of domain names in the signature. I looked on Estibot and it said it had 2 back links and they pointed to this website. Question..If a website offers you a link that you can place on your website--once you place that link on your website and someone visits your website and clicks on that link..Does that create a back link for you and only for them? I have a think like that in my signature below. :blush:

Here is a good tip that has worked quite well for me.
Find a good blog relevant to your content ( i search bloglines.com )
Email the blogger and ask if you can do a guest post. Make something informative regarding your industry, niche, then put some nice keyword links in the article - Everyone i've done so far has kept all my links in the article.
Somethings to note:
1) Make it informational - easy to ready, short 500 to 600 words
2) Don't overdo the linking in your post, 3, max 4 links per post.
3) Make it pertain to the blogger audience, IE: if your niche is on widgets and the blog you are targetting frequently writes about blue and grey widgets then make your post geared towards blue and grey widgets
Great Bonuses.....
1) Generally blogs have higher PR (not that big of a deal w/ me but helps)
2) Blogs get indexed really fast by google, i **heard** as fast as 15 minutes after the post
3) Google values blog links (not sure for how much longer however)
4) You get a great, RELEVANT, contextual links
5) I've seen traffic driven from the post to my site quite often, its great because generally the guest post is free, you get backlinks and relevant interested users reading it and visiting your site.

i got traffic with my Saint Tail site (an anime site) all I did is exchange link =)

great results, i guess that I go against the grain here!
Some people just want to flog and get their site out there and rely on quantity i.e. the more links out there the better, while this is partly true I believe more in......
QUALITY
getting better higher linked pages from others that listed high in the serp's that way you will get more chance of getting lots of traffic.
again too, if you want heaps of traffic make sure your ads or headlines are not lame and boring.

Bearing in mind Google's current stance on paid links this is classic. As long as it's revenue for them then advertisers can virtually do no wrong.
I notice that TLA are banished from the SERPs for 'text links' so I bet they pay a fortune in adsense each month.

I seen a few ask about Social Networks.. They are more of a traffic link, Vs a PR link.
I have a few listed here by PR with some info on each one. over 500 social networking sites that can bookmarks

With postings in a forum, do more postings in one forum help?
For instance if you have 10 postings with url/signiture in a forum, will that count as 10 back links (one for each sig) or 1 back link (for the forum)?

I find that more and more sites use the "nofollow" attribute in hot links. For instance, I was on a forum where the "nofollow" tag was used. It's almost impossible to find good PR blogs which don't use the "nofollow" tag for comments.
How do you find a good list of blogs that don't use the nofollow tag?
My opinion is that a link containing a nofollow tag is useless for seo.

nice articles. i agree about this link building things. IMO just do it consistently and it will pay. and i agree too about high PR blog. most of them use nofollow tag. the reason why they got quick high PR is because of that nofollow tag. but many blogger did not know about that. so they just made comment thinking that they get the link love. now there are the dofollow movement. hope a lot of blogger would follow them.

I don't like link exchanges. I prefer one way links. Just provide great content, and people will link to you naturally. A blog help as well.
As for an example of tool, you should have a software created. If you want to see an example of viral tool, pm me, and I will send it to you. I'm off now!

Maybe focus on your friends' higher alexa/pagerank site.
Maybe ask them to have a backlink for your site because of extreme friendship.

I heard a rumor that Yahoo has been ignoring the NOFOLLOW tag for some links. Not sure how true that is but it is always good to know if a blog comment or signature link is going to be followed by the Search Engines.
There is a free plugin for Firefox that highlights NOFOLLOW links on a page so you can see if blog comments, signature links etc are going to be useful for a particular site.
I can't think of the name of the plugin right now but I'm sure if you search you will find it!

Good article but definitely for beginners. As for the nofollow attribute, it does not stop the crawling and indexing of a link -- so it does follow, but it simply puts less value (nor does it pass PageRank value) on the followed link and it does not devalue the referring website where the link resides.

I knew most of those stuff but if you are doing all of those alone for your sites, it could be overwhelming. All of them (and some) are effective, as long as you have a team of dedicated people to do all of the back-links generating strategies. It seems all of us have no problem with the methodologies/techniques/strategies as there are a lot of info all over the web and specially here in webmaster-talk. It is the execution of the techniques which require people which therefore require money.
