What does it take to be a successful blogger? If you believe the gurus selling their magic potions online, all it takes is for you to buy their ebook and you can be a rich just like they are. The truth behind their deceptive marketing is that they got rich by selling their system, instead of actually working in the trenches like the rest of us.

The real truth about blogging is that it’s hard work. Of course, anything in life that you are going to be successful at takes work, and blogging isn’t any exception. But there are lots of things in life where hard work is pretty much all you need. However, with literally millions of blogs available on every subject imaginable online, you absolutely have to do something to rise above the noise.

Honestly, most blogs are boring and that mainly happens because most bloggers are writing about making money online, when they’re not really making any money. Most people can see right through this. It’s just not that exciting to read about something you know isn’t true. And yet there are also some bloggers who do make decent money, but all they write about is blogging. I know you’ve read the blogs that talk about 10 ways to come up with new ideas for blogging, 5 ways to get readers for your blog and 2 ways to come up with 5 more tips about blogging. That just gets boring.

Very successful bloggers that see their rss subscriber numbers continue to increase month after month, and the ones that I like to read, put their own voice to whatever it is they’re writing about, but then they also add something quirky once in a while. I love to read about what their stupid pet did that got their neighbor mad at them, or see pictures of themselves having a meal at a fancy restaurant, or read about the dream car they’d like to own, even if their blog isn’t about cars, food or animals.

It’s the human interest aspect of experiencing who’s behind the blog that is part of what brings readers back for more. Isn’t that somewhat why reality programming has become so popular in the last several years? It is important to get all the technical side of things correct, I mean heck, we do have to make money in this industry, but it’s also great to participate in some of the fun as well. I guess you could say that just as reality shows have become popular today, reality blogging has its place as well.

Think about the blogs you read. What is it that makes you want to read them? How does it make you feel when read that your favorites blogger has similar interests in food, recreation, travel, books or other things that you do? For one, when a blogger is open and shares things going on in their life, it makes me identify with them and trust their recommendations more. That way when they write about something that interests me or would be good for my business, I’m more likely to give serious consideration to their words.

One thing that’s very prevalent on the net today is copycat bloggers. People looking for a quick buck will try and emulate a successful blogger down to even getting a domain name that’s very close to who they’re trying to copy. This rarely succeeds because there may only be room for one person to do things exactly as the successful blogger is doing them.

This can be a lesson for all, that to be rise to the top as a blogger, you have to be original, speak with a voice that isn’t already being heard and most of all have fun with what you’re doing. If you have fun and have a passion for blogging, your readers will surely catch that same passion, and you are on your way to success.
