How to Write Anything

Whether its articles, blogs, product detail, or advertising script you can write anything using simple writing methods like these.

Beginning to End

Remember, everything has a beginning and end. This is the head and tail and everything in between is the belly. Figuraly speaking.

Introduction

The beginning is your introduction. This is where you’re going to open your one-sided conversation or story. If the introduction doesn’t catch your reader’s attention in the first two sentences you might as well stop there. That’s the first and only chance you’ll have to grab your reader. If you fail then, they’ll throw the rest of your story out.

Ending

The ending is where you tie everything together. Through the content you have told them how wonderful your product is, and kept them in suspense in your story of how Timmy fell down the well. This is where you tell them how it all ends up ‘ok’ or in advertising, give them the final ‘special low time’ price.

But what about the content you say? I missed talking about it entirely? No, not at all. The content, the ‘belly’ of your creature is the most important, and hardest for most people to write. They can figure out the head and tail, but they sure don’t know what to do with the body.

Outline

First of all, make an outline. We all did these as children in school. The first item on the list should be your introduction, and the last your ending. In the middle, write down key points you want to talk about. For example, if you’re writing an advertisement ad for a hot weather balloon, the key points might be the newest extra strong balloon canvas, design integration allowing balloons in different shapes, and then how your newest safety flame valves protect the balloon travelers even better than before from accidental explosions. Have you ever seen a hot air balloon fall from the sky in flames? Me neither, but I’ve seen a moth fall in flames from a bug zapper. I figure it probably isn’t much different. So this is probably a good point to add.

Rough Draft

Now that you have your outline down on paper move on to the rough draft. Write out a sentence or two for the beginning, then for each key point do the same. Write out a few sentences on each key point. Then finish up with a few sentences for the ending.

Advertisements are usually quite short, so you may only need a few words for each key point, and that makes things both easier and harder. Easier because there’s less work for you to do from this point on, and harder because the few words you do use will have to be able to convey a bigger message.

The Longer Story

When writing a much longer story, for example an article or book, then you need to expand on your sentences. For each key point make sub key points, and turn the expansion sentences into paragraphs.

Really writing is as simple as that, and anyone can do it. My best recommendation is to use spell and grammar check programs after you finish. Even if you are very good in grammar and spelling typos still occur and these programs can ensure that nothing was missed.
