There is only one place on the Internet that allows you to join a community of people that have a similar passion, learn from them and profit from it. That place is where people go to chat, exchange thoughts, and share ideas with other people is the Forum.

A Forum is an important website that you can find in almost every niche. The are two ways to make money wit a forum – you can either own one or be a member in one.

As an owner your monetization strategies would be very different from that of a member. An owner would look for advertisers that have products or services that relate to the niche. You may also have a “Special offers” section where people pay to post products for sale. You’d make a profit on the front end for the member posting the item for sale and the member would make a profit from selling their product or service. A forum owner could also profit by charging for higher level memberships. This doesn’t always work in every niche, but when created correctly the concept can be very profitable. My focus for this article wasn’t for the forum owner, but more for the forum members.

As a website owner your goal is to bring in more visitors to subscribe to your list, purchase your product, or buy your services. One way to do that is by talking in forums and building relationships with people that will bring them back to your site.

Most recently forum owners have had different opinions on this, some don’t want you promoting your site because you’re taking away their traffic, but others don’t mind because you’re giving their members valuable information. Neither really matter because if the forum has valuable members that answer questions and keep the conversations going the forum members will remain members because they enjoy the company of others that have similar likes and dislikes.

Enough on that rabbit trail and back to how you can make money as a forum member…

First and foremost you need to find a forum in your niche. You can do that by searching in Google for “your niche’ forum” This will bring up a listing of sites that have a forum related to your products (or affiliate products) topic. Look through the listing for a forum that has moderators that hold up the standards and has current conversations going on.

Before joining the forum, linger in many conversations. Study the conversations that are going on and how the exchange of ideas are being driven out. Reading on some of the posts on the forum will help you decide better whether to join the forum channel or not. For example, some forums are full of grumpy people and trying to build a relationship with them and then eventually promoting a product to them will be extremely hard (well unless you’re grumpy too).

That sums up How To Get Started Making Money With A Forum – Part 1 look for How To Get Started Making Money With A Forum – Part 2 which covers, forum features to look for in a forum, building relationships and a customer base, and creating yourself as an authority on the topic.
