How To Become A Web Designer

Things you will need, first a computer, that was a no brainer. Next, you’ll need a plain text editor such as notepad or something like that. Last thing you need is access to the internet, and possibly an html study book (but you could skip the book and just find your information on the web).

Well now on to the actual steps:
First, is to learn the basics to html. I’ve written an article on how to learn HTML in one weekend which will get you started in the right direction. However the best way to start is to type “learn HTML” into Google and start reading. OR you can go to Youtube (or other video sites) and watch the HTML tutorials available. Most people will try to pick up basic code from templates and then edit that template according to what you need it to do. This isn’t the best way to learn, but you’ll start to pick up on the code as you work more. If you want to become a good designer and fast, take a course. If you don’t have the cash to cover the course then you’ll be forced to go through a longer learning process…

Step 2: Once you have learned the basics, find a decent tutoring site for html that will teach you more advanced techniques or try to pick it up on your own by looking at the code on webpages when you find a design you like. You might also pick up a book at the library, but I wouldn’t suggest buying a book…it is just not worth it. Its like math, once you learn the basic of algebra you can do any math. More than half the time you can use formula card to remind you of the tougher things. Once you learn the basics of html you can use a reference for the more complex things.

Step 3: Get a website to do experiments on. Pick a subject that you like and know about and then start to mess around. This is your test site, so feel free do some crazy things and find out what looks good. When you’re testing you’re learning and taking action to become a better web designer, this should be a must for every beginner… you’ll be amazed how much you learn by trial and error. Also, be sure the site is on a topic you like to talk about...this will give keep you interested and motivated to continue testing. Most important - Have fun.

Step 4: When you have a site that you wish people can see, you will want to put it up for people to see on the World Wide Web. To do that you need to upload your web files to a web server. There are many different free web-hosting providers out there. Web hosts have really easy steps or guides to help you get your sites uploaded and running quicly and easily. If there are any problems, all you need to do is pick up a phone and call your hosting provider. Most have 24/7 support and some even have a live chat feature. It is important to find a good hosting provider which is not always free… be sure to investigate and find the one that best suites your needs.

Step 5, When you are a "pro" you may want to expand your knowledge on creating web pages. Another great thing to learn is CSS, Cascading Style Sheets, which can really give a great addition to Html, and the best part about CSS is that you do not have to learn different code! You can also find information on CSS online and in books just like HTML. Extended your knowledge and learning more is really great because it puts you ahead or your competitors.

is it just me or does that article say absolutely nothing about how to become a web designer. it should be titled, how to get started on creating a basic website. being able to create a website does not entitle you to call yourself a web designer.
