Finding Link Submissions Through Search Engines

No matter what type of site your website is, you have probably trying to rank well in the search engines. Ranking well in search engines is a great way to get traffic to your site and get your website or company more well known. What some webmasters don't know is that there's a way to search the search engines for places to add your site.

How do you do this? Search for the keyword(s) you're looking for, but also add "add site," "submit link," "add link," "suggest url," "suggest site," or any number of similar phrases to the end of your key phrase.

After making this search, you should have a list of sites that give you potential places to submit your site to gain a backlink or two. Sometimes these are directories; while most directories aren't worth much, directories you find when using this method are typically exclusive to your niche, making them more valuable.

You'll also find web pages on other sites that are simply related to the site you're trying to gain backlinks for. Adding these links are sometimes automated, but often it'll need to be approved by the site's webmaster. As long as it is free to submit, there's no reason why you shouldn't. Moreover, if you are able to get the link, it'll be exceptionally good because it'll be related to your website's niche (topic).

Using the search engine to evaluate links, you can also look for the backlinks that your competition has (and find what site they've got them from). For most search engines, use the following: "link:http://www.websiteaddress.com" - type this into the search engine. In our example, use the website of your competition. You should do this, but compare the results from multiple search engines to give you a more accurate, overall average set of data. Do this link research.

After you've found the sites, browse the links to find which ones will take submissions. It’s possible that some won’t, but it’s likely that many will; if they don’t say they will, it’s still likely many will at least consider adding your site. If you're competition gained backlinks from a site, it's possible you can gain a similar backlink from the same website.

Even if you can't see an option to submit your link, consider sending a email to the webmaster of the site and asking him or her if they'll add your URL to your site. They might just accept it; if they don't, the worst they can do is say no. If you do this ten times and only get a link once or twice out of each time you request it, you're still gaining backlinks, which means you're still making progress.

If you do any of these link submission methods I've mentioned in this article, keep in mind your site should always be developed and be a quality website. While some may consider this a no brainier, for some it's not. You site should be completed and not a work in progress. Think about it: would you add an unfinished website's link to your own? Probably not. Moreover, all the content on your site should be high quality and original.
