Many, websites such as Amazon.com used to focus on one service. Amazon.com was a very small service at its creation. Amazon has realized that by diversifying their range of items, they can meet the needs of more consumers. More products lead to more consumers and in turn it leads to more profit. Amazon developed a website where they could sell practically everything, for reasonable prices. They revolutionized online purchasing and selling effectively, and brought in large sums of profit.
You must realize that attending to a wider audience is purely a win-win situation for your company. Do note that with the current competitive items for sale around different websites, if your site does not offer its services or products to a more diverse group, it won’t get any significant traffic.
The same goes for services. If you’re a web design firm and you only specialize in designing templates, you must look at expanding your services list. For example, if you were to expand to lets say doing some programming work, script installation, and possibly even excelling in flash, clients are more than likely to approach your company. They may not want all the items I listed, but these clients are more comfortable with that certain company because they know that this design firm can do much more work, it’s all about convenience and availability. By tending to a larger audience, your company/design firm/anything for that matter will receive a lot more attention and traffic. Consumers/clients who see that you offer a lot will be more interested in your company rather than the average site specializing in one certain thing. By adding more and more to your company, you can monetize all of that traffic.
People have always liked MORE. More, More, More, to completely take your traffic and monetize it, you must have all of those “more” things presented.
Basically what I have been trying to say here is that by expanding the amount of things you sell, by adding different and unique items that many people are interested in, or by adding more services to your small or already large list, will only help you. The more you can do the more money you will get out of it. It’s a simple concept to adapt, however you must be sure that your audience is interested in what you have to offer, if they aren’t remove that specific thing and replace it with something else they are interested in. Expansion=Money, remember that.
