So you have no products of your own and your entire site is run off affiliate programs that you’ll receive a commission for for each sale that’s made. This actually isn’t a bad idea, but the main problem is how to keep your customers coming back through your site, and referring your site to their friends so that you’ll continue to get new sales.
Branding your site is one of the most important steps in assuring return and referral traffic.
Domain
The number one most important step in doing this is the domain address. Get a domain name that fits your site and preferably is the same as your site name. Keep it simple. For example: BestGadgets.com is easier to remember than BestGadgetsForYourHome.com While the second may be easier for search engines it won’t be for your return traffic.
Realistically, not everyone is going to bookmark your site, so name recognition will be very important for you. As you want people to be able to remember and refer your domain address to all their friends and associates.
Theme
The over all look of your site is what will set it apart from other sites. Even if you bought the theme or downloaded it free, you can make it look original and specially designed just for your site and products. By making slight graphic changes you can do this easily even if you’re a complete newbie to Photoshop.
Logo
The logo is really as important as the theme. This is like a mug shot of your face. People may forget your site theme, but they won’t forget your logo. This is why it is so very important to make your logo something special instead of just words in bold print. Hiring a graphic artist to create your logo is actually a good idea, as they know how to make it stand out. Animating a logo is sometimes a good idea too as it brings the viewer’s attention directly to it. They’ll never forget your mug shot.
Making yourself known
This is the step most webmasters completely forget. They think that if they make themselves look unique by following the above steps people will automatically remember them. Fact is, you’re one of a million. So how do you make yourself known to anyone and everyone? By having other people talk about you.
Now wait a minute that sounds like we’ve gone full circle right? No, I’m not trying to confuse you. I’ll explain.
Targeting bloggers, ezines, forums, print magazines, and newspapers are the way to go! Often writers will write articles on you for free, but sometimes you’ll have to pay a little for an article. However it will always pay off! Articles identify your site, logo, and products. Even if the products aren’t your own! By creating discussion you are spreading your name. Thus making yourself known even to the average joe.
By branding and marketing yourself as a unique site that’s already talked about in the media, you’ll find yourself on the path to success and profit.
