On Day one of the 7-Day Action Plan you’re task is to research keywords. This maybe seem simple, but its an extremely important step if you want to move up quickly through the naturally Google listings.
[FYI – A natural listing in Google is the listing on the left side of the screen when you search a topic in Google. The small ads on the right are paid listings. – Your goal with social media marketing is to move up your listing to the top of the natural listings]
Before you can research keywords you need to search for a “keyword research tool.” There are loads of options some of which you’ll need to pay for and some you will not. I personally use Wordtracker, which has a free version.
Once you find the keyword research tool you want to use your going to be looking for keywords related to your business. For example, if you were in the weight loss niche you’d search the keyword Weightless. However, you can also find other keywords that are competed for less like the name of a specific diet, diet supplements, diet exercises, etc.
So don’t limit yourself to exactly what your site is related to.
Now, what would you do if you don’t have a business and want to start a lead generation business? Well you will be looking for luxury type services or anything with a high-ticket sales price. For example: Web Design, Lawyers, and Limo Service. These are often services that will pay for leads and if you’re bringing in leads for free through social media marketing you can turn a high profit and sometimes receive upwards of twenty-five dollars per lead.
Next you want to find that people are searching for that item by city. For example: Web Design in Tampa Florida, Seattle Web Design, or Pittsburgh Web Designer. So, in the search box for your keyword research tool type in “your keyword” and a city. This will bring up a listing of how any times people look for that keyword in a specific city.
I know you’re probably wondering how do you know if that keyword is a good one to use? Well, I have spoken to loads of marketers and the preferences are all different. My suggestion for anyone new to this would be to find a keyword that is searched two thousand plus times per month. The keyword research tool that I use (word tracker) gives you daily search results so, you’ll need to multiply that number by 30 to get a monthly search result.
Now, once you find a keyword that is searched two thousand plus times per month you need to make sure you an compete for a natural listing in Google. So open up a new tab or window in your Internet browser and go to Google.
In the search box, type in your keyword with quotes (“”). Then look at the results on the top right hand corner. If this number is below 15,000 you should be able to easily move up through the natural Google listings. SO now, you’re looking for a keyword that has two thousand plus searches per month and fifteen thousand or less competing pages.
