“The money is in the list.” I’m sure you have heard of that affiliate marketing cliché more times than you can remember. So why don’t you have a list yet?
If getting started is your problem, then this must be your lucky day. I’ll be sharing with you some of the most powerful tips on how to build a list and get people to click that “Sign-Up” button.
First things first, when trying to build a list, it is important that you put yourself in the subscriber’s shoes. With so many free newsletters and mailing lists to join these days, you must have subscribed to more than one. Ask yourself:
- What made you sign up or “opt-in” to that list?
- What keeps you subscribed to this mailing list? Is there something of value that you get from it?
- Or perhaps, why did you UNSUBSCRIBE from that free newsletter? What pushed you to the edge to finally click that unsubscribe link at the very bottom of the email?
Answer these questions objectively and you’re half way there. It could even lead you to one of those light-bulb moments and might even lead to ideas that would literally make people chase you to sign up to your list.
Now that we’ve taken care of the essential first step, lets now move on to some powerful strategies on how to build a list!
How To Build A List Strategy 1 – Don’t Give Away A Free Newsletter!
Yes, I know… this breaks everything you’ve been told. And I know people love “free,” but how many times have you not “Opted in” for a newsletter in fear of being bombarded with pitch after pitch. You need to give your visitors more than just a free newsletter. Free information, free tips, or free updates is OK but the offer doesn’t make them want to immediately sign up – no questions asked.
My suggestion is to give away an ecourse with daily action steps and loads of free informative content. Or you could give away an awesome ebook that gives your new sign up loads of quality information. Get where I’m going here?
If you give away very valuable, high-quality information in the form of ebooks, an ecourse, or the like your new signup with be more enticed to buy your product because you’ve given them such great information so far – why would you let them down when they purchase your product?
How To Build A List Strategy 2 – Make It Catchy And Eye-Grabbing
The message you’re sending across on the sign-up page could mean the difference between thousands of subscribers and an empty mailing list.
“Sign Up For My Newsletter” isn’t so enticing for a make-money online website. Not to mention it has “BORING” boldly printed on its forehead.
BUT…“Sign Up NOW And Get My Free e-Course And Start Making Money In No Time” hits all the hot buttons and would get people signing up for you left, right, and center.
My point for tip two is to put your time, effort, and (if you have it) money into your opt-in page. Have it professionally designed. If you’re just starting up and cant afford it, then model your opt-in page after those you know are converting visitors into leads (opt-ins).
Also, take time and put effort into the copy on that page. You’re going to need a headline that is catchy and makes the visitor want to read more info on your page. You will need a short basic story on why you have information they need. Then you’ll need at least 5 bullet points on the benefits of signing up to your list – this could be about the free item you’re giving as a bonus. If you can’t give at least 5 bullet points on the benefits of joining your list – you should rethink how you’re running your list. And most importantly, have an opt-in box that collects your visitors name and email. You can’t build a list without it!
