It certainly sounds a little strange. I just checked my stats. I sent 626 clicks to various advertisers over 3 months, resulting in 3 sales. 0.47% conversion rate. At that rate I would have thought you would have expected 48 sales on your site.
How is it you are sending the traffic? On a banner that rate would surprise me, but if you do it by popup, I would say it was fine. Although I don't run popups, it took me over 470,000 ad impressions to get these 3 sales. Thats 0.0006% (which for you would work out at 0.06 sales....
Just guessing here, though...
It could be simply that they are not very good at converting people who visit to people who download. Or maybe they are finding it difficult to get people to buy after downloading. If you assume 1% of the people who click on the banner actually download something, thats 100 downloads. Assume 1% of them buy, you should have only got 1 sale, so maybe thats just around the corner.
The thing with being paid by sale, though, one sale can be worth thousands of clicks. I only made 6 sales last year, but earned over $145 from them.
I'll be interested to hear the outcome of this....
