I have joined several web hosting affiliate programs, but I am having trouble working out how to promote my referral link. Has anyone earned money from web hosting affiliate programs, and how did you promote your link?

When you say "but I am having trouble working out how to promote my referral link." it makes me think maybe you don't have a web site yet and are just trying to post your link places? If so that's a really tough way to go especially with something as competitive as hosting.

Maybe I'm wrong about that, that's just how it sounded. If you don't have a site that's the 1st place to start. Or you can even try starting with a free blogger blog. I'd sure find a niche instead of trying to start with something as competitive as hosting, though!

But then again - web hosting is a _super_ competitive niche. Simply because it pays so well. So instead of entering the competition blindly (hard to play with the big boys on this one), I recommend going local. Do an _offline_ ad in your home city or local area - offer to help people set up a website. Prepare an e-mail which you'll send to these people coming to you.

Direct them to your aff link. Give them free templates before doing this (easy to find from web) -> They'll have a situation where they (almost)have the site, but no hosting. Just recommend that hosting with personal touch. In most cases, they'll take it (because they don't know about better anyway, they are rookies). BANG - commission for 10 mins job. Not exactly autopilot, but a good $$ per spent time.

Actually on most forums that will get you banned or at least get your link and/or post deleted.

Create one page on your site or blog and write review about those web hosting programs. Promote and do SEO of these pages as we normally do for our sites and blogs. I think this is one of the best methods.

Write a blog, where? You mean Blogger.com? Or setup your own wordpress blog website? If so, how can you drive traffic to your website?

just write up a review on the host yr promoting in the blog and keep adding to it all the time with relevant stuff.

Im not into all that any more tho so havent added to it in ages but it still gets hits from all the promoting i used to do and i used traffic exchanges and link swaps with other forums.
I even made a website http://infos.110mb.com

and i used to promote that everywhere.

Well, having your own website is definitely going to be very important. Just promoting your affiliate website will get lost in the search engines. In fact I have heard that most search engines do not like affiliate sites at all. So get together a website and find someone to host it. That will give you a better chance of being seen.
Then promote your own website. There are numbers of ways to do this, including traffic exchanges, link exchanges, directory submission, blogging, writing articles with original content.
Also very important is to have a newsletter that you can send to your customers. Create and promote a "squeeze page" to get your possible customer's name and email, throw them into an autoresponder, and keep sending them emails. Lots of people will "look" once at your site and then forget about it. So "squeeze" them into signing up for your newsletter, that way you can have multiple contacts with them.
People are more likely to buy after they get to "know" you.
But most importantly, don't give up!

I think you must be sending email invitation that you got from vendor where you register affiliate network...

This is definitely not the way to go, unless you want to get banned from forums. First what you need to do is get you a domain relevant to the hosting niche (If you have not done so already). Then have that domain forwarded to your affiliate link.

As far as marketing, there are a tons of ways you can go about it. Check the different forums for different strategies...unless you have some extra money to advertise, but it will take some time for you to see any real results using the free stuff being that the hosting market is so competitive.

They have a referral program where I get 20% of whatever my referrals make. All I have to do is promote my Treasure Troope referral link.
