Hey, I'm looking for a similar scheme to AdSense, but with fewer rules around the pages the ads can be placed on.

Basically my site (http://www.stolenmoments.co.uk) violates the terms of Google as it has no real content on offer.

Are there any other schemes out there that I could incorporate into the site?

Widgetbucks, is that just an affiliate for various products? That's not the same as Google is it?

What I need is a site that can offer simple text links, as I have very limited space on my site.

and Alex21, mind sharing just a little more info? Perhaps the name of the affiliate?

Pretty sure that Azoogle offers similar ad formats as Google does, but their advertisements are all affiliate commission driven. I have not tested them myself.

I tried adbrite and didn't really earn anything from them. Most of the time the ad's was not even close to what my forum niche is about. There was a few adult ad's in there also.

I've had success with bidvertiser.

AdBrite turned out to be fairly crap. I ran them on a site with around 10000 pageviews daily and didn't even get any ads to show up even! All I got was "Advertise on this site Now - powered by AdBrite" for a week!

I have a friend that buys web sites that have large hit count. Normally from beginner or unfinanced web masters, and just makes a flat offer to the major advertising groups. He basically says stay away from the adsense and go direct. He is making $20,000's mth and cleaning up. maybe you should check the offers that are out there from the pro's

I should generally point out that when I say that he is buying web sites from underfinanced webmasters, They usually are alexa ranking 10000 or under (Normally under 5000) where the traffic in potentially 100,000s or 1,000,000 hits a mth. The webmasters are not pro's and dont know the marketing concept so they cant afford their hosting, he gets the site and gives back to the webmasters to run as they do with no cost to them and then gets the advertisers. Obviously my friend is a pro and I do not know his advert suppliers, but they jump at the chance for the traffic and gets "very special deals". I will be seeing him in a couple of weeks (I am overseas at the moment) and see what info I can find.

I'd like to go direct.

Have a site that gets 1200 PVs/day but I don't know where to sell this inventory...

Try admanage.com . It is a network that offer both CPC and CPM offers. I do not know much about their payment.
