I am pretty new to both this forum and affiliate marketing. I'd like to know the basics before I start to go more in-depth with the topic.

I have created three questions below in which I hope will be answered by you guys, and the experienced affiliate marketers of this forum.

1. What is affiliate marketing?
2. What are common ways to promote affiliates?
3. What is/are the most cost-effective (in means of cheapest costs with best ROI/results) mean[s] of affiliate marketing?

1. promoting other people's product
2. most people promote from their websites, seo, spamming or PPC
3. i currently do PPC.. it can be expensive and ROI can be low... its all about testing and finding that gold mine

i was looking to get into selling items/gold for all games

Many people also use article marketing if they want to keep their overhead low. I personally can't handle the time it takes (I'm not a great writer) so I use PPC mostly.

if I do need articles for a campaign, I usually find someone that can write 300-500 word articles for about $5/article

I've tried most techniques but find PPC gets me the quickest results.

Hi, just joined the group. Wanted to add that it is good to have an article submission service as the better ones can get your article out and around better than you could personally do, probably, without investing a great deal of time and effort.

I do a lot of different things to build traffic, including purchases of low-cost traffic from eBay sellers. Sources like start-up traffic exchanges can offer great deals.

There are thousands of ways to promote products online. You can pay for traffic, try to get organically or email or a couple dozen other different methods.

Some are more stable then others, some people exceed in one area, but can't do anything in another. You just need to find which way you prefer...
