I'm not 100% sure on my detective work here but I don't a affiliate marketing and one is hype courses called ebooks that are practically worthless sold by gurus to suck as much money out of you the would be affiliate marketing fanatic as possible and the other is the genuine humble web marketing solution sold by jim daniels and promoted by the author of this paticular reply and the real affiliate marketing is when you find a niceh and put informative traffic getting videos to presell somebidy who wants to buy something on a thing called the internet where something called ecommerce is done via a thing caled a webcart and I used to promote amazon.com as an affiliate and the only commision i got was about $15 all through me clicking through my own links and buying some books seven years ago so it depends on the traffic amount and quality your already getting wheter your gonna being selling any stuff by links and referrals to somebodys on the internet via affiliate marketing which is what this is affiliate markeint gand the thing called technoroati is what got into me into this forum and finding your particular message about asking about how to define what i s the definition the the words that are two called affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is typical reseller business in internet. So you will find a product what you like and start to promote it to your niche earning commissions on each sale.
Most of software products are currently sold this way and actually it fits to any industry. eBook is also intellectual property so if it have value to someone it should be paid like paper book.

It is about selling affiliate products a product that is not yours. selling affiliate products is need not easy as we would like it to be. the competition is fierce online so you need to be among the top affiliate to continue to get sale.

Affiliate marketing is reseller product over internet. You will get commission from merchant. The best thing for affiliate are
1. you don't need to have store
2. you don't need to concern about shipping method
3. low investment, high return

basically you are driving traffic to someone elses page and if someone buy you split the commision with the product owner.

Just from my comment above it is much better to have your own product and set up an affiliate program....but this takes much more work.

becoming an affiliate and making money is not that difficult if you have a good laid out plan.

Affiliate Marketing is NOT A RESELLER type "system" or "setup".

Resellers PAY, in advance, for the products they sell. Affiliate simply REFER people to a Website via a special link with an ID of some sort.

example would be:

You sign up as an Affiliate for Amazon.com and your brother or sister decides they want "Adwords for Dummies" (good book, by the way)... so, you can go create a link with your own Affiliate ID attached - that will land on the Adwords For Dummies book... once they click on the link and purchase, you get a commission check from it.

You do NOT have to pay up front for products and you DO NOT have to stick with one product... it's like being a car salesman and having the ability to sell any car in the world with very little effort.

Sorry, but I can't stand when people say "Affiliate marketing is like being a reseller". That is a complete backwards view of what Affiliate Marketing is.

You can also sell leads to other companies as well, it doesn't have to be a physical or digital product...

Hey OP - enough hype - here is a breakdown for you with some logical next steps you can take to make money online as of today.

1. As outlined above - you are endorsing a product or service you found and like, that has a nice payout. Example - I am a publisher, I make lot's of great products with clickbank and have many to choose from - you sign up to clickbank as an affiliate (free), you choose a nickname which is going to be in your secret link/affiliate link.

2. You find products through the clickbank marketplace or through your own research that are proven to convert and have great payout/commission. Example - i have a product 'projectwealthy.com' which sells for $250, i offer 65% commission to those that make sales - after fees etc. you the affiliate keep approx $150 per sale.

3. Your objective is to drive as much traffic that is unique, targeted, and ready to buy. You might be asking 'don't I need a website?' - NOPE. You can advertise through many avenues for free which we call 'bum marketing'. You have a few easy immediate choices - a) buy a domain related to the product you are promoting, and forward that domain to your aff link OR to a landing page (this could be a page that a merchant like myself gives you to play with/upload to your own host, or could be one you make), you can also make free pages on blogger.com wordpress, squidoo, etc. You can also submit articles to ezinearticles.com (however do not put your aff link in your articles, only your .com or squid/blog page), you can setup ads on free ads sites, craigslist etc., you can make videos to submit to youtube etc. and include your .com in the description (hot this year)... so really there is no excuse for not getting targeted unique traffic even if you do not have a site. You can also use PPC (pay per click) campaigns on google, yahoo, msn (3 best).

4. Clickbank keeps your stats, the amount of clicks (they call them hops) your aff link is getting, and the amount of dollars you are making all in real time.

5. If you are not familiar with IM or AM then you probably have no idea how many links you click in a day that are not straight from a merchant - in fact over 80% of links out there going to sites are actually endorsed or bought/promoted in many creative ways. Most merchants have a vast affiliate marketing library with good products that have everything you need to market with including banner, text ads, landing pages, articles, graphics, ppc templates etc. this makes promoting the products you endorse easy, and conversions happen faster.

Try diving into to affiliate marketing through the use of an affiliate network. By partnering up with a network, you eliminate a lot of the hassle you would otherwise have to endure.

An affiliate network essesntially bridges the gap between the advertiser or merchant who's product you would be marketing and yourself, the publisher.

It's a great way to begin, especially when you have a milllion questions to ask. Networks are a great place to make money and get answers!
