Is the idea that I would have a page like that (via Azoogle, Copeac, etc) on its own domain name and then just use PPC (via AdWords, Yahoo, etc) to push traffic to it?

That seems to easy...but I haven't really heard what else you'd do past that.

What you are referring to is a landing page. These is where you redirect the traffic you get from your marketing efforts. This is better instead of just redirecting them to the sign-up page as doing this IMO, lessens the value of what you are marketing. A pay-per-click campaign for your landing site would get the targetted traffic that you need. PPC is a very effective way to market your site/product done properly. Identify the keywords that your target market would most likely be searching for and start from there. Another great way of promoting it is by blogging about it.
