I believe the best paying affiliate programs to be:

Hosting Companies
Poker & Casinos
Satellite TV

These all pay over $100 Per Sale. Any others?

Difficult to say. I find that Azoogle and CJ are among the best. Depends on your niche.

Credit Card company is good too. $25~$75 per sign up. Very easy sell for the big name like Discover, Citibank, AE & Chase. Everyone needs and want another credit card with zero % balance transfer.

I'm actually thinking of marketing credit card sign-ups for CJ but i'm not sure if it's still going to be profitable for me. Are they still?

To answer the question, well i guess CJ they pay on time (although it is a little late) but they have the option of wire transferring the money..that's a big plus for me!

Azoogle continues to impress me, they have great deals that users just want to signup for. And the deals are like no-brainers to signup with good payouts for us affilates.
They are picky about who joins.

Biggest is not always best. The highest commission programs are not always the best. Some convert poorly, bad customer service, questionable product, terrible service and some go out of business quite suddenly. Always research your companies.

Best paying affiliate programs are usually not the ones that pay hundreds of dollars. I am managing a program that pays $250 per sale but it is very hard to make a sale -- it's a business sale.
On the other hand, I have programs that pay under $100 and on average they convert better and make more money for affiliates.

The best way to decide what programs pay best is to look at your income per 1,000 clicks that you send to them. So if you send 1000 clicks and make 1 sale that pays $150 with one program or send 1000 clicks and make 5 sales at $60 ($300 total) with another program, obviously the one that pays $300 for 1,000 clicks is better than the one that pays only $150 per 1,000 clicks even though it pays less per sale/lead.

Profitable? Yes, if you can find a reputable company to work with. Unfortunately, because of the legal implications, finding a reputable company isn't easy.

Safe? Not any more. Seems like every week now there is a pharmacy bust, or someone indicted.

Really though, there are much better ways to make a living.
