Hello everyone! I am trying to figure out PS7 and what I want to do right now is to figure out the best way to learn how to make my own banners and logos. In the past I've paid others to do this for me and now that I have my own software, I want to learn to do this myself. I've purchased quite a few books but of course have not had time to read them all. Is there a section or website or anything you can recommend for learning how to make banners and logos? Also, want to learn about making website templates for my own sites. Thank you for any help and I really appreciate your time!!

Making good banners and logos is not quite as simple as "buy Photoshop = create professional graphics". If you were to give me a set of paints and brushes could I then go out and paint the Mona Lisa? Of course not. Same goes with Photoshop. You may have the tool with which to create, but without the artistic talent you will produce not much better than you could in WordArt.

You need to play, practise, throw away the first 50 efforts you come up with and then plan out your work. Plan it out in your head. Visualise the final product. Work towards your goal, discard another 100 efforts along the way, try again, swear a lot, drink lots of coffee, and you will be half way there.

Good luck

Hello and thanks for replying. Actually, I did not assume that buying the software would make me an overnight logo or banner artist. I was just wondering what part of PS7 to go to or where to go to for how-to's to get started practicing. I am not sure how to even get started. I do know how to paint and I am a fairly decent artist and have many ideas, just not sure about the technical know how of how to do it via PS7.

Thanks for any help.

Oh and I almost forgot. Dismaldonkey, I checked out your website and I really like your logo and banner design. I just want to know how to get started. Are you starting with a blank screen and then drawing and painting or do you ever start with a picture that you make many changes to? When I say I'm a novice using this program I am not kidding! Just want to start and get lots of practice so I can some day be as good as you are!! I appreciate your time.

The way I first started to play with Photoshop was to go to a tutorial site. One of the best I found was http://www.good-tutorials.com/ .

Just pick a tutorial and follow it through. Then another, then another. Each one you do will get you used to the individual functions available in PS. Then start to experiment yourself, change the settings used to see what different effects you can come up with. It's all about playing around and practising, but it really is true when I say that for every logo you complete and are happy with, 100 get dumped.
