Every time I come across a useful/good brush I want to pass it to a personal folder and build up a number of favourite brushes. Is there any way to do this?

Of course. I have thousands of brushes all organized in folders OUTSIDE of the Photoshop Presets folders. When you go to 'load brush' you can direct it to any folder anywhere on your drive.
