I just can't do this, could anyone tell me how to swap out a burned out sky for a reasonable set of clouds?

I have the two required images at the same DPI and colour depth, I can do the masking, but cant do the merge!

Any help would be appreciated.

Try this link. It's a tutorial on blending. You can adapt it to your case.
