hi all experts
I m using photoshop cs 5. when i create a new layer like circle or just a blank layer, few layers properties are disabled like softlight, hard ligh, vivid light, overlay, screen etc.
in this cs 2, i did not face this problem
second problem is of colors. for example i m doing a tutorial from the net and i want to use this color #2c3242, in cs2 it was easy to get the color, copy it and paste it in colors dialogue but in cs5 how i can get this color?
i hope you understand
thanks

The properties should appear once you put content on that layer.

Regarding putting in a hex code for your color, click on either the foreground or background color in the tools palette and a pop up will show in which you can enter hex, RGB, CMYK or HSV values, same window that's been popping up back to PS7. I don't recall being able to put a hex value in any other way, even back to that version.

Edit: Forgot, you can also click the foreground and background color icons in the color window and the same popup will appear.

when i add content on the layers, properties are still disabled, for example i have created a new circle and want to add shine on it, for this purpose i have created another small circle over existing circle, then i want to change the new circle layer property to soft light but it is dim, what i should do?

All of those tools are located in a dropdown at top left on the layers menu, located on the right of the screen at the default setting. They are active even with no content on the layer, just checked it. That's where your soft light, hard light, screen, etc. will be found.

Also at the bottom of the layers menu are icons for mask (circle in rectangle) and adjustment (B/W circle) layers, the latter of which is for effects like brightness/contrast, hue/saturation, levels and so forth. On any mask or adjustment layer, when selected, painting in black will hide the mask, in white will show, in gray will show by degree of percentage gray, using gradient black to white same thing, shows and hides by degree of what percentage black/white is used.

And that's not all that's in that one little menu!

Oh, and make sure what you're trying to work with isn't on the background layer, which is locked by default. Not all the features are available in 32 bit, no, but they're there.
