i have this tutorial, and halfway down they have me make this ring selection shape but i have no idea how to do it. i only know how to make a singular circular selection. i tried using stroke to do it then select but it didnt work. any help greatly appreciated. thanks. derek

ok i finally figured it out with some playing around, google didnt help. here it is. at least, here is the way i did the ring selection.

draw a circle with the elipse shape tool, make sure "fill pixels" is checked. all on a new layer. circle an elipse marquee tool over it. press delete to make the hole. select the new ring with wand tool. fill it with bucket tool color. and burn and dodge tool as needed to make it 3d. derek

i figured out how to make a selection inside the ring too, for a glow inside it. use the pen tool with "shape layers" selected. make your selection inside ring by right clicking with pen and "make selection". for fx. use outer glow on it.
copy that layer and rotate it for the other spots.
