I made a background in Photoshop that I'd like to incorporate into my website (see screenshot). It's 1024 x 768.

What if someone has a larger screen? What am I missing? What should I do differently?

Thanks!!

Interesting gradient, but it does pose a dilemma as a background because of the horizontal and vertical variations. Typically I'll define a background for the <body> that matches the ending color of a gradient - which can make the transition appear seamless. Kinda hard to do with that images.

Yeah. I have to agree with LadynRed, it'd be tricky - if possible. If I HAD to go with that gradient, I'd make a really big image (say, 1920x1200), so that if someone has a really big resolution, it will work for them. And it would look fine for the smaller res users.

I don't like that solution at all though, because 'big image' means 'slow loading time'. And since I used to have dial up, I've learned to be really conscious about that sort of thing.

You can create very large background so It looks good any other browser.
Or simply blur the border of your background image.

Make a slide or viewgraph transparency of your selection and prepare the surface for the artwork. An old king-sized sheet will do very nicely or you can use the wall itself. If using the sheet, stretch it firmly on the wall and project the transparency on it. Make sure the projector is firmly supported and square to the wall. Mark the position with tape in case it moves. Using a charcoal stick, trace in all the edges of the picture on the wall. If a removeable background is desired, stretch a king size white or light gray or beige sheet on the wall. Make sure it is firmly attached since you w will be drawing on it later.

that's quite a nasty background anyway so you would be better off using something else also if you're going to be putting text directly on top of it you're going to get all sorts of readability issues to do with contrast.

if you really want to use ti then make it pretty big (but be aware of the file size!) or fade it to white around the edge(s) and poistion it top/left/centre/right
