Assuming your images are exactly the same H&W, put them into one open window so that they are on two different layers.

Go to the layer's pallette, click on the top photo so it is active. Then, go to the bottom of the layer's pallette and click on the mask button. It looks like a box with a circle inside it.

Now, go to the layer with the new mask. Make sure the mask is active by looking at whether there's a mask icon or a brush icon to left of the layer's name. If the brush is showing click on the mask portion of the layer. Now, the mask should be shown as active. Use the brush tool with a feathered edge to mix the two images or you can use the gradient to make a linear gradient to mix the two.

To view just the mask, ALT-click or Option-click the mask. It should be black, white and possibly some shades of gray. To go back to view the image, ALT-click or Option-click the layer again.

Good luck.

Really good advice before mine, but another easy way is this.

1. Drag one image on top of the other, and arrange where you want it to be.
2. Click the "add layer mask" icon at the bottom of the layers palette (make sure you have the top layer active)
3. Select the gradient tool, make sure the gradient is set to black and white or foreground to background (b&w gives a stronger effect)
4. Simply click and drag your gradient line, youll see instantly, and can continue re-dragging the gradient line until you like the effect.
5. Once your happy, right click the mask layer and accept the mask.

Cheers, scotia
