I downloaded a logo off of my template site and its in Photoshop format.

Well I have no clue how to either put it where the logo goes on the site template as a psd file or how to export it as a jpg or gif file.

Help please!

A lot of missing details going on. What template site? How are you making it, and where? Are you ftp'ing to a host account, are you on a web-based control panel?

Do you have photoshop? If you have photoshop, open the psd file with photoshop and then use file>export (i assume it's file export - that's just normal behaviour for software, i personally don't have photoshop at the moment, but may do very soon, thanks to donations of machines, software and dosh already pouring in for the boycott i'm doing).

But it sounds to me like you're going to have loads of problems, sounds like you'll be walking around what is a minefield for a beginner developer.

how did it start? start at the beginning. who made your site, and how are you accessing its backend now? (ah, if kenneth williams were here we'd hear a distinct "oo er..." or something.)

File > Export is File -> Save for Web... in Photoshop

Adobe like to be just different enough to confuse.

Well, it depends on how you want to save it. In Photoshop CS3, you probably want to do File --> Save for Web and Devices. And whether you want to save it as a .jpg really depends on what kind of file you're saving.
