Photoshop leaves + grass + gradient + silhouettes of awkward animals + decorative font = all logo disasters.

The first and foremost rule of logo design is that it has to work purely black and white or 2-spot colors. I don't think this would, and that makes a constrictive logo.

If it's a logo you're going for, put the running deer on one side of the lettering with a silhouette of a shooter on the other side, on a neutral background. That would fit the title, at least. Barring that, put seven more deer on what you have, towing a sleigh with Santa shooting at the other wildlife, and a beagle hanging from one of the sleigh runners for dear life.

It's not a logo for me. It's like a mini card (with relation to Christmas?-because of the reindeer)...no offense here. A logo depends upon the nature of who owns it.

Yeah, no, that's not a logo at all, that's nearly a poster...

a logo needs to be instantly recognizable, something people would automatically associate with a brand.

I'd help you but I'm a little against hunting in any form lol.
Thanks,
Andy

Don't be discouraged, we all start somewhere and learn by trial, error and the opinions of our peers (good and bad).

Like the others said, it should be easy to convert to Black & White or 2 colors. It should also be instantly recognizable as to what you are branding.

Your font does not portray hunting, it's more Old Western, Vegas Show theme to me. You could get away with using a simple font and creating an emblem as a logo. maybe a flying duck or deer antlers with two guns crossing in the background and a cross bow facing upwards. It's up to you really what you do but the possibilites are endless so explore them. Use different fonts, spend more time on the focal area instead of the background. Logos ususally don't have a background, instead they should easily be able to be incorporated into any background.

Good luck and post back.

Ok, thanks for replies. This is my first photshop creation ever. I like the ideas of antlers with guns crossed as well as the text with a deer on one side and hunter on the other, but I don't think I'll be that good anytime soon.

Here's my idea. Very basic, just an idea to play around with. E-mail me for .psd if you'd like.

I would go with Gx3 Grafix because it looks really better for hunting!
I also agree with
webcosmo because it does not seem to be a logo. It is more like a wallpaper for a film, which is comming up in the cinema!

Really funny!

You mean you didn't like the beagle hanging from Santa's sleigh idea?

Seriously, though, whether it's effective depends on its use. But as it is, consider where the eye is going first--to the guns, right? You have a lot of trapped white space between the text and the guns, and the earthquake font may not be the best choice. I'd decrease the angle at which the guns are crossed and play with the font some to find something more appropriate to the title. By doing that you draw the eye more to the title.

Look at some hunting T-shirts, I KNOW they have 'em aplenty just as much in VA as here. What fonts are they using?

Play around with it some and post what you come up with; I'd like to see it.

Now I'm just going to have to get film footage of my rat terrier running deer.

Buckshot,

A logo for a web page should not be much over 100 pixels high IMO (in my opinion).

It is always good to work with a larger format as things reduce more cleanly than they upsize.

Some combination of the 2 you posted might work at the proper size.

Knowing the potential market and the site content might change my opinion one way or the other.

That's better buckshot. I would angle the guns more so it forms an elongated X and would reduce the height. Maybe add some styles to it (lightly) and two nicely contrasting colors and it will really start to shape up. Your first one definitely was not bad for first PS work but as they pointed out lacked some important logo characteristics.

Keep up the good work, and never get discouraged it takes time. -John
