blending seams with 7.0

Hello all, here's the problem:
I have two images that I want to blend together. Each image is approximately the same size at 3"H x 1"W and they overlap about 1/4" in the middle. I want to blend that middle part so there is a smooth transition from image to image. Another way to put it: The images are arranged in such a fashion that as you move your eyes left to right you see an image of a lake, then a seam, and then an image of a grassland - just as if they were two pictures butted up against each other. Well -there is a little bit of overlap at that seam, and I want to create a smooth trasition from the lake to the grassland by blending the overlap of that seam together. I've tried all I know, looked in the help menu, and played with all the blending, merging, and blurring options I could find. Help would be gratelful.

Also, hopefully a much easier question, yet one I don't have the answer to either. How do you make a circular crop as opposed to the normal square that comes up?

Hi flushot,

The easiest way to make a smooth transition is to utilise layer masks to make the edge(s) of the imges semi transparent. This is achieved pretty easily using the technique outline here, on my site: http://www.wz2k.co.uk/pages/download...&Submit=Search

As for the circular crop question, you can't actually crop to a shape other than a rectangle. However, you can make a circular selection on a layer other than the background, invert the selection (ctrl+shift+I) and then press the backspace key to delete the selected portion of the image.

If the image is on th background layer, simply promote it to a layer by double clicking the background layer on the layer palette and renaming it to whatever you want.

Besides masking or erasing you could also try and use the patch and stamp tools if you work as large as possible and closely you can add the dots on the i.
