How to make an text area in psd slice? Dreamweaver

Hello to all,

So I have been trying and trying, but I cannot figure out how to make a template in photoshop CS3 where I can take an area, say a where I would want an editable area for text or whatever in dreamweaver, and then make it work?

I read somewhere to take the slice that is a graphic, and cut and copy it from the SRC and paste it to ? somewhere that I cannot find and then it will make a place holder where that image was. That is as far as I can get and then I am stuck.

So pretty much I want like a graphic slice where it is a gradient or something that goes with my template, and then use it for a background area where I can use an html editor to add text on top of that image without using photoshop where it is stuck there.
